LARAMIE, Wyo. - After the most successful soccer season in school history, Cowgirl senior Allison Masumiya and redshirt freshman Sara Paul were the first-ever Cowgirls named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I All-Pacific Third Team.
"We are excited that Allison and Sara have been recognized by the NSCAA," Cowgirl head coach Danny Sanchez said. "This is a tremendous honor that is a reflection of the success that our team had this fall. Although we will miss Allison, we look forward to how Sara and the team develops as we move this program forward."
Masumiya, a native of Lakewood, Calif., earned her second postseason honor of the 2011 season adding the NSCAA All-Pacific team to her First Team All-Mountain West honors. She was a senior leader for the Cowgirls helping the team to its most wins (12) and best winning percentage (63 percent) in school history. She ended the season with seven total points scoring two goals and assisting on three others. She was also a key member of the UW defense that set a school record goal-against average of 0.83.
Paul, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, adds to her already impressive postseason award list. The NSCAA All-Pacific team is her third postseason award. She was named the MW Freshman of the Year and First Team All-MW after leading the Cowgirls in scoring on the season. She finished the 2011 campaign with 21 total points, scoring eight goals and assisting on five others. She took 66 shots on the season, which tied her for the second most in a single season. Her eight goals also tied her for the fourth most in a Cowgirl single season. Three of her eight goals were game-winning goals which tied her for third-most in a single season.
