Cowgirls Fall To Falcons

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team closed out the weekend with a 5-2 loss to the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Sunday morning, in Colorado Springs . The Cowgirls fall to 7-10 overall and 0-4 in conference, while the Falcons improve to 12-11 overall and 2-5 in the MWC.

The day started off well for the Cowgirls as they won two of three doubles matches to take the point. The No. 2 team of Jen Hancock and Yuliani Santi earned an 8-4 victory over Heather Shelby and Kat Bushey while senior Kati Gyulai and freshman Megan Williams defeated Kelli O'Bryant and Jen Nigro, 8-4. At the No. 1 slot, Patricia Chien and Gwen Moser fell to Laura Nigro and Gina Black, 8-1.

Unfortunately, things didn't fair as well in singles play as only one Cowgirl came away with a win. Senior Kati Gyulai earned a two set victory over Kat Bushey, 7-5, 6-3. Laura Nigro opened up in the No. 1 spot with a close 7-6, 7-5 win over Patricia Chien. Junior Yuliani Santi dropped her match against Heather Shelby, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 slot, while junior Jennifer Hancock fell to Gina Black in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. The Falcons closed out singles play with Kelli O'Bryant defeating Gwen Moser, 6-2, 6-3, and Megan Williams falling to Katie Tomkie, 6-1, 6-1,

Wyoming will continue conference play this weekend at home. They will host the BYU Cougars, on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., and then the Utah Utes, on Saturday morning, at 10:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at the UW Tennis Complex.
