It was a tough outing on Saturday for the Wyoming women’s tennis team as it continued play at the Hurricane Invite.
Only two Cowgirls came out on top with victories on the day. Senior Nastya Tokareva won her match, 6-2, 6-1, over Petya Simeonova of Oral Roberts. Junior Dorottya Jonas also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Ximena Puentes of Oral Roberts.
Sophomore Magdalena Stencel lost her match, 7-6, 6-0 against Ksenia Laskutova of Tulsa while junior Miranda Talbert fell to Rongrong Leenabanchong of Tulsa, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Tessa van Der Ploeg fell to Mahitha Dadireddy (Tulsa), 6-2, 7-5 followed by Elisa Koonik losing to Yelena Nemchen (Tulsa), 6-2, 7-5. The final Cowgirl in singles action was Sanne Hoekstra against Marcelina Cichon, 6-0, 7-5.
All three doubles teams came up short in its matches. Stencel and Tokareva lost to Leenabanchong and Matoula, 6-0. The team of Koonik and van Der Ploeg fell to Laskutova and Renata Kuricova, 6-4, while Jonas and Talbert dropped the match, 6-4, to Cornelius and Antonijevic.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the tournament tomorrow in singles and doubles action beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT. After this weekend, the Cowgirls will open up dual action against the 12th ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Tuesday and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles on Sunday.
