The Wyoming women's tennis team continued play on Saturday at the Tulsa Hidden Duals.
"We played some really good tennis in some spots and in others we have a lot to work on," head coach Dean Clower said. "A big area we need to improve on is our consistency throughout the match. I'm proud of the ladies effort and will continue to use this weekend to make the adjustments we need to make."
The only Cowgirl to come away with a victory in singles play was freshman Cecilia Mercier. She earned a straight set win, 6-0, 6-3, win over Faith Atiso of Old Dominion. In the yellow flight, Adriana Rajkovic defeated senior Silviya Zhelyazkova, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, while senior Jessica Parizher lost to Ivana Vukovic, 7-6 (3), 6-4. Nikol Hristova beat sophomore Dorottya Jonas, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the gold flight and senior Christa Gecheva fell to Marijana Novakovic, 7-6 (3), 6-1. In the blue flight, Magdalena Stencel fell to Borislava Botusharova, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
In doubles action, the team of Stencel and Alma Espinosa were the only team to win a match on the day. They defeated Novakova and Atiso of Old Dominion, 6-3. Earlier in the day, they lost to Leenabanchong and Laskutova of Tulsa, 6-3. In the blue flight, Saarteinen and Kuricova beat Parizher and Gecheva, 6-2, followed by a 6-4 loss against Botusharova and Hristova (ODU), 6-4. The final team in action was Jonas and Zhelyazkova. Cichon and Mathitha Dadireddy won the first match while Vukovic and Rajkovic of Old Dominion beat the duo, 6-3.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the weekend tomorrow before opening up with dual play on Wednesday against Oral Roberts.
