The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team completed the weekend with singles action to close out the Tulsa Hurricane Invite, on Sunday morning.
"This was a good weekend for us to assess where we are and what we need to work on," said head coach Dean Clower. "We look forward to practice this week and addressing the details we need to fix."
Three Cowgirls came away with victories in singles action. Veronica Popovici won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, over Nikol Hristova of Old Dominion. Jessica Parizher also won her match in two sets, 7-5, 6-4, against Niki Khmolovska (ODU) while Christa Gecheva won by default over Ivana Vukovic (ODU).
Silviya Zhelyazkova lost in a three set battle, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6), to Marijana Novakovic (ODU) while Dorottya Jonas had a tough outing against Ingrid Vojcinakova (ODU), 6-0, 7-5. Carol Benito (Tulsa) defeated Alma Espinosa, 6-2, 6-4, followed by Alena Vasileva with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Melissa Esnal Olguin (ODU). Gecheva played an additional match against Yelena Nemchen of Tulsa and fell in two sets, 6-1, 6-1.
The Cowgirls are back in action on Saturday, January 18, as they face the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. The match is set for 10:00 a.m. in Lubbock.
