The 75th ranked Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (2-0 overall) closed out their weekend with a 7-0 win over the Northern Colorado Bears (1-1 overall), on Sunday afternoon in Greeley.
"We had a solid performance today," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "Northern Colorado challenged us and we responded well especially in singles. We look to work on getting a faster start in doubles before we head out to Nebraska in a couple of weeks."
In doubles play, the Cowgirls earned the first point of the day by taking all three matches. The 62nd ranked team of Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel defated Tapia and Wahteley, 8-4. Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs won 8-2 against Stephanie Caitlin and Adriana Nieto, 8-2. Wyoming won the third match of the day with an 8-3 over Jill Kappel and Jennifer Buchanan.
Wyoming swept all six singles matches that were played on the afternoon. It started out with freshman Veronica Popovici who defeated Jennifer Whateley, 6-2, 6-0, while Alexandra Kovacs won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, against Elizabeth Tapia. Kim van Ginkel won her match over Jill Kappel, 6-1, 6-0, as did Rebecca Berger against Stephanie Caitlin, 6-2, 6-4. In the number three position, Simona Synkova won, 6-1, 6-3, against Adriana Nieto. In the final match of the night, Sasa Nemcova defeated Jennifer Buchanan, 7-5, 6-1
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 4, as they face the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The match will take place in at 4:00 p.m. MT in Lincoln.
