The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team wrapped up their first weekend of play with a disappointing 7-0 loss against the Wichita State Shockers, on Saturday morning, in Lincoln, Neb.
"It was a tough way to start the spring season, but I hope we can take some things from it," said UW head coach Krissy Hall. "We'll get back to practice this week and get prepared to open up conference play against Air Force."
In doubles play, the Shockers won all three matches to win the doubles point. The UW number one team of Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski fell 8-3 against Madina Rakhim and Florentina Hanisch. Cowgirls Corina Lazar and Sarah Summerfield lost 8-5 in their match against Stephanie Dalmacio and Anna Egorova, while Wyoming's Michelle Brown and Amy Senko fell 8-0 to Torrie Browning and Lenore Lazaroiu.
Wichita State also took all six matches in singles play as well. Rowinski had the closest match on the day for Wyoming as she fell in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1) against Lazaroiu. Rakhim defeated Summerfield at the number one spot, 6-1, 6-3, while Hanisch beat Lazar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. At the number four position, Brown lost 6-2, 6-0 against Dalmacio. Wichita State wrapped things up with Egorova defeating Senko 6-1, 6-1 and Browning winning against Andrea House, 6-4, 6-3.
Wyoming will host their first match of the season next weekend as they welcome the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday, Feb. 3. The match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Complex.
