The University of Wyoming women'stennis team lost to the University of Denver Saturday in Cheyenne 5-2.The match was held at the Frontier Tennis Club and was the first of thespring for Wyoming.
The Cowgirls fell behind early as Denver won all three doubles matches,giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 team score lead. A team must wintwo-of-three doubles matches to earn one team point.
Wyoming won two singles matches. In the No. 4 singles match Cowgirlfreshman Toni Terhaar defeated Rossi Thomas 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 in ahard-fought match. UW's other win came in the No. 5 match, where seniorAngela Dossetor defeated Beth Messaros 7-5, 7-6.
The dual against Denver marked the first match of the spring season forthe Cowgirl program. It was the fourth match of the spring for Denver.
"You could tell it was our first match of the spring," said Wyominghead coach Pam Wildt. "Denver had some big, aggressive girls and theywere match-tough. We've only had about a week of practice since thebreak, and it was apparent. But this is our starting point and we'reonly going to improve from here."
