Cowgirls Drop Season Opener Against Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team dropped their first match of the spring season to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb. The Cowgirls fell to 0-1 overall, while the Cornhuskers improved their record to 3-0 overall.

In doubles play, the Cornhuskers earned the point by winning all three matches. The number one team of Corina Lazar and Amy Senko fell to Katie Garcia and Gitte Ostermann, 8-2. Nebraska's Imke Reimers and Ewelina Skaza ousted Karolina Rowinski and Patricia Chien, 8-5, at the No. 2 spot, while the team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser came up short against Milena Schulz-Gartner and Pamela Castillejos, 8-0.

The Cowgirls also fell short as Nebraska swept all six singles matches led by Gitte Ostermann with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Corina Lazar. Sophomore Karolina Rowinski battled until the end but was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Imke Reimers at the second spot. The Cornhuskers Milena Schulz-Gartner won in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 over junior Patricia Chien, while Kim Romero fell 6-4, 6-4 to Pamela Castillejos at the No. 5 spot. Amy Senko also fell 6-1, 6-0 in her match against Ewelina Skaza. Nebraska rounded out singles play with a Katie Garcia 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andrea House.

Wyoming continue play on Saturday against Southwest Missouri State at 10:00 a.m. MT in Lincoln, and then wrap up play this weekend against the Creighton Blue Jays, on Sunday morning, at 11:00 a.m. MT in Omaha.
