The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team came back strong with a 6-1 win over the Southwest Missouri State Bears, on Saturday, in Lincoln, Neb. The Cowgirls improve to 1-1 overall, while the Bears fall to 0-1 overall.
In doubles play, the Cowgirls earned the point by winning all three matches. The number one team of Corina Lazar and Amy Senko defeated Liz Garcia and Maja Stanojevic, 8-4. Karolina Rowinski and Patricia Chien ousted the team of Paty Manzur and Biljana Gakovic, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot, while the team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser closed it out with an 8-0 win over Carolina Ardila and Stephany Harmazy.
Singles play was also dominated by the Cowgirls as they took five of six matches led by Corina Lazar as she defeated Liz Garcia 7-6 (3), 7-6 (1). Sophomore Karolina Rowinski had an easy time, 6-1, 6-3, over Maja Stanojevic at the second spot. Patricia Chien won 6-4, 6-4 over Paty Manzur while Kim Romero and Andrea House both won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 , over their opponents. Amy Senko unfortunately lost a close three set match, 3-6, 7-6, (2), 6-0 against Biljana Gakovic.
Wyoming wraps up the weekend on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. against the Creighton Blue Jays in Omaha.
