Feb. 2, 2008

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (1-1 overall) rebounded after a loss on Friday morning with a 7-0 sweep against the Colorado College Tigers late that same night.

"It was nice to come back and earn a solid victory against Colorado College," said UW head coach Krissy Hall. "We had a tough battle earlier in the day, so it was nice to see us come out and take the match."

In doubles play, Wyoming took the point with three solid victories. The number one UW team of Rebecca Berger and Corina Lazar earned an 8-1 win over the team of Kelsey Smith and Leah Zipperstien. Wyoming's Michelle Brown and Carly Van Hollen won 8-0 against Jordan Evans and Sally Bryant, while the number three Cowgirl team of Jamie Nelson and Brittany DeFelice defeated Brit Swenson and Erin Yamamoto, 8-2.

The Cowgirls also finished strong in singles play by winning all six matches. Lazar defeated Smith in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Berger earned an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Zipperstein at the number two spot. Brown also won her match against Bryant (6-1, 6-0), as did Van Hollen, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1, over Evans. At the number five spot, sophomore Sarah Summerfield defeated Swenson, 6-1, 6-2, after coming back from an injury last spring, while DeFelice earned her first career singles match against Yamamoto, 6-1, 4-0 (ret.).
