Wyoming Beats Air Force, 5-2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (2-2 overall, 1-0 in the MWC) won their first conference match of the season with a 5-2 victory over the Air Force Academy on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs.

In doubles play, the Cowgirls took two of three matches to earn the point. The number one Cowgirl team of Rebecca Berger and Corina Lazar defeated Erika Shortridge and Erlyn Rudico, 8-2, while UW's Brittany DeFelice and Jamie Nelson earned an 8-6 win over Samantha Sarkis and Lauren Wilson. The Wyoming team of Michelle Brown and Carly Van Hollen fell short 8-5 against Christine Abayan and Meghan Kiser.

Wyoming took four out of the six singles matches to pull out the victory. At the number three spot, Van Hollen defeated Kiser, 7-6 (5), 7-5, while Brown earned a two set win, 6-2, 6-4, against Sarkis. UW's Sarah Summerfield defeated her opponent Katrina Eromin, 6-3, 6-3, while DeFelice closed it out with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Sarah Cassman. Both Lazar and Berger fell in three sets against each of their opponents.

Wyoming will resume play on Saturday, February 9, against the Drake Bulldogs. The match is set for 10:00 a.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
