The 75th ranked Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (3-1 overall) closed out their weekend with a 7-0 victory over the Illinois State Redbirds, on Saturday morning, in Lincoln.
"We came out strong today and got the job done to finish the weekend with a split," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "We have a few days to regroup before we head out to California. We look to continue winning matches."
In doubles play, the Cowgirls swept all three matches to earn the first point of the day. The 62nd ranked team of Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel defeated Kiss and Tigges, 8-2. At the number two position, Veronica Popovici and Carly Van Hollen earned an 8-1 win over Ariane Maack and Carolina Abello, while Sasa Nemcova and Alexandra Kovacs closed things out with an 8-5 win against Hannah Esker and Heather Nisbet.
Wyoming swept all six matches in singles play to secure the match. At the number one position, Popovici earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Aniko Kiss. Kovacs defeated Phyllis Tigges, 6-1, 6-3 followed by Simona Synkova over Ariane Maack, 6-3, 6-3. In the number four position, Kim van Ginkel complete her weekend 2-0 with a win, 6-1, 6-1, against Carolina Abello. Sophomore Sasa Nemcova won her match, 6-0, 6-1, over Gabriella Phillips, and Carly Van Hollen closed things out with a three-set victory, 7-5, 1-6, 10-5 over Hannah Esker.
The Cowgirls will head out West next week to the state of California for three matches. They will take on UC Santa Barbara, San Francisco and UC Irvine.
