LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team earned their first win of the spring season with a 6-1 victory over the Creighton Bluejays on Friday night in Omaha, Neb. With the win, the Cowgirls move to 1-1 in the spring season while the Bluejays even up their record at 1-1.
Wyoming took the doubles point as two of three Cowgirl duos came away with victories. The team of Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko defeated Deidre Senders and Christy Roth, 8-2, while at the No. 3 spot Patricia Chien and Gwen Moser had a struggle with their match but earned a 9-7 victory over Pam Gerik and Kim Cavan, 9-7. Unfortunately, the team of Yuliani Santi and Jennifer Hancock fell short in their bid, 8-4, to the team of Megan Kowal and Katie Chiu.
Singles play was also dominated by Wyoming led by sophomore Patricia Chien in the No. 1 spot with her 6-0, 7-5 victory over Megan Kowal. Freshman Karolina Rowinski was victorious in her match against Christy Roth, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 3 slot, while Yuliani Santi battled Kim Craven to come away with a two set win, 6-2, 6-0 win. The Cowgirls closed out singles play with freshman Andrea House defeating Pam Gerik, 6-2, 6-1 and Amy Senko earning a straight set victory, 6-1, 7-5, over Deidre Sanders. The only Cowgirl to fall in singles play was senior Jennifer Hancock to Katie Chiu, 6-2, 6-4.
The Cowgirls will continue play tomorrow against Wichita State Shockers at noon mountain time in Lincoln, Neb. They will close out the weekend with a match against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
