Tennis Topped By New Mexico

The University of Wyoming Cowgirlslost their third straight dual today against the University of NewMexico Lobos by a score of 9-0. They are now 0-3 overall for the springseason. The Lobos were ranked thirtieth nationally at the end of lastyear and were returning six letterwinners to their squad.

Sarah Kay, moving into the No. 1 singles, was defeated by NataliaAlekhova in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Three other Cowgirls were alsodefeated in two sets, Melanie Roberts was defeated in the No. 2 singlesby Ashley Hedberg 6-2, 6-1, Shirley Mendoza in the No. 4 singles by NezaKurnik 6-2, 6-0 and Paulina del Monte in No. 5 singles by DominikaGerwin 6-0, 6-0. The two Cowgirls who took their opponents into threesets were Sofi Espinosa in the No. 3 singles and Angela Dossetor in theNo. 6 singles. Espinosa fought very hard but was defeated by NicoletaSpilea 7-5, 6-7, 7-5. While Dossetor won the first set and thencouldn't pull out another game, losing 3-6, 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles play was just as tough as the singles. All three Cowgirlteams were defeated by the Lobos. Kay and Roberts had the closet matchlosing 8-4, while the other two teams of Espinosa and Mendoza, and delMonte and Dossetor lost 8-1 and 8-3 respectively.
