The University of Wyoming women's tennis team was on the road this past weekend, February 5-7, for three dual matches played over the course of three days.
The Cowgirls began their weekend on Friday, Feb. 5, when they took on Sam Houston State in a neutral site dual match that was played in El Paso, Texas. UW was very successful against SHSU as they came away with a 6-3 victory. Winning their singles matches for Wyoming were Natalie Morozova (#2 singles), Lisa Pruett (#4 singles), Shirley Mendoza (#5 singles) and Amanda Roberts (#6 singles). Wyoming also gained doubles wins at the #2 and #3 spots from the teams of Kay/Pruett and Mendoza/A.Roberts.
The next stop on the Cowgirl's road tour was in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Saturday, February 6, for a dual with the #71 ranked New Mexico State Aggies.
Although the Cowgirls were close in almost every single match they could not come away with a victory and lost the dual 9-0. Sarah Kay at #1, Pruett at #4 and Mendoza at #5 all took their Aggie opponents to three sets in their singles matches but could not finish with a win.
The final stop for Wyoming was back in El Paso on Sunday, February 7, for their first WAC dual match of the year versus the UTEP Miners.
Once again, the Cowgirls were close in many of their matches but did not come out on the winning end of things, dropping the dual by a score of 8-1. UW's sole victory came at the #2 doubles spot where Sarah Kay and Lisa Pruett defeated their UTEP opponents 9-8.
