Cheyenne, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team improved their dual record to 2-2 overall after sweeping the Creighton Blue Jays, 7-0, on Sunday morning in Cheyenne.
The Cowgirls swept both singles and doubles play to earn the victory as the Blue Jays struggled playing with only five players.
At the No. 1 spot, junior Yuliani Santi rebounded from an earlier loss over the weekend to defeat Christy Roth, 6-4, 7-5. Patricia Chien was victorious over her opponent Deidre Senders, 6-2, 6-0 at the second position, while at the No. 3 spot senior Kati Gyulai beat Pam Gerik, 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 4 position, Jen Hancock defeated Shannon Whelen, 6-2, 6-2, and freshman Gwen Moser closed out singles play with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 three set victory over Molly Green.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Yuliani Santi and Jen Hancock defeated Christy Roth and Deidre Senders, 9-7. The team of Kati Gyulai and Patricia Chien completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory over Pam Gerik and Shannon Whelen.
"It was a very good day for us," said head coach Pam Wildt. "We showed up and played much better as a team than yesterday. It took us a day to get used to the court and back into competition after being off for the past couple of weeks. Overall, it was a great team performance by everyone, and I was very proud of them."
The Cowgirls will be off until Feb. 28, when they face off in a dual against Eastern Washington in Portland, Oregon.
