Cowgirl Tennis Earns Victory

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming women's tennis team won their only match of the week with a 4-3 victory over the Army Black Knights on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs. The Cowgirls now improve to 3-2 overall in dual play, while the Black Knights drop to 2-4 on the season.

Despite falling short in doubles play, the Cowgirls managed to pull out four of six matches in singles play to win the match. At the No. 2 spot, senior Yuliani Santi battled to a three set victory, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, over Megan Noble, while Karolina Rowinski defeated Amanda Paluch, 7-6, 6-1, to earn a win. Freshman Amy Senko defeated Pam Chavez in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, and Andrea House closed out singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kate Houghton. Senior Jen Hancock fell short in her match Ali del Moral, 6-2, 6-1, along with Patricia Chien at the No. 1 spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, against Marissa Limsiaco.

In doubles play, Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko were the only Cowgirl team to win a doubles match with an 8-2 victory over Megan Noble and Melanie Bundoc. Seniors Yuliani Santi and Jen Hancock came up short, 8-5, against Marissa Limsiaco and Ali del Moral as did Patricia Chien and Gwen Moser to the team of Pam Chavez and Amanda Paluch, 8-6.

The Cowgirls will head out on the road again this week with two matches in Portland, Oregon. They will face the Portland Pilots, on Friday at 2:00 p.m., and then the Santa Clara Broncos, on Saturday morning, at 10:00 a.m.
