Tennis Blanked By Talented Nebraska Squad

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Cowgirls hadanother tough day in Lincoln, Nebraska, losing to the Huskers 9-0today. The Huskers now 4-1, had their top performer Sandra Noetzelreturn to action after sitting out the last two duals with a groininjury. Noetzel was looking for her 87th career win and got it bydefeating senior, Sarah Kay, in the No. 1 singles action. Noetzeldefeated Kay in two sets scoring 6-3, 6-1.

In the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, senior, Melanie Roberts and sophomore,Sofi Espinosa were defeated by two top performers Ndali Ijomah and MariaFernandez scoring 7-6, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively.

The bottom half of the lineup couldn't find a victory either, withShirley Mendoza, Angela Dossetor and Paulina del Monte losing to theiropponents in two sets.

In doubles play, coach Pam Davis did some switching to hopefully getbetter results, however all three teams struggled against theiropponents.

The Cowgirls now 2-5 will be coming closer to home for their next matchagainst Northern Iowa on Feb. 26, 2000 at 3:00 PM in Colorado Springs,CO. They then will be in sunny California for their next three dualsagainst Iowa State on March 13, 2000 at 10:00 AM, Long Beach State onMarch 14, 2000 at 2:00 PM, and Cal State Fullerton on March 15, 2000 at2:00 PM.
