The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (5-3 overall) opened up their weekend with a disappointing 4-2 loss against the 56th ranked Wichita State Shockers on Saturday afternoon.
The Cowgirls took two out of three to earn the point. Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel defeated Veronika Blaskova and Montse Blasco-Fernandez in a shoot-out 9-8 (8-6), while the team of Carly Van Hollen and Veronica Popovici earned an 8-6 win over Raphaela Zotter and Lutfiana Budiharto.
In singles play, Wichita State edged out the Cowgirls by winning four of the six matches. The only Cowgirl to win in singles play was Veronica Popovici who earned a straight set win over Raphaela Zotter, 6-4, 6-1. At the number one spot, Alexandra Kovacs fell to Lutfiana Budihart, 6-0, 6-1, while Simona Synkova had a tough battle against Veronika Blaskova, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Carla Venticinque defeated Kim van Ginkel, 6-4, 6-2, while Rebecca Berger lost in straight sets to Delia Damaschin, 6-3, 6-2. The other Cowgirl in action was Sasa Nemcova who didn't finish her match against Montse Blasco-Fernandez.
Wyoming will wrap up the weekend tomorrow against UT-Arlington.
