The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (6-3 overall) closed out their weekend with a 5-2 win over the UT-Arlington Mavericks, on Sunday afternoon in Wichita.
The Cowgirls took two out of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel defeated Daiana Negreanu and Natalia Mayuk, 8-4, while the team of Carly Van Hollen and Veronica Popovici earned an 8-2 win over Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova.
In singles action, Wyoming would earn wins at the one, two, five and six spots to come away with the victory. Sophomore Alexandra Kovacs won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, over Daiana Negreanu, while Veronica Popovici defeated her opponent Linda Aquvist, 6-3, 6-4. At the number five position, Kim van Ginkel earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Giada D'ortona, while Sasa Nemcova wrapped it up with a tough three-set win, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6, over Katarina Micochova.
Wyoming will return to action next Saturday, March 5. They will host the Eastern Washington Eagles beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the UW Tennis Courts.
