LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University ofWyomingwomen's tennis team opened three days of duals in Bozeman,Mont. with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to homestanding MontanaState Friday.
The Cowgirl's number-one doubles team of Jenny Bowman andJennifer Hancock pushed UW off to a good start, takingtheirmatch 8-5 over the MSU duo of Neza Kurnk and Liz Lowrance.
The Bobcats, however, rallied to win doubles matches atthenumber-two and number-three positions and take a 1-0 leadheading into singles play.
"Right now, we're just struggling with doubles andputting too much pressure on ourselves," Cowgirl coach PamWildt said. "Our first team was victorious. Unfortunately,the second and third teams are struggling."
Paced by sophomores Bowman, Yuliani Santi and Hancock,theCowgirls swept the top-three singles matches to surgeahead3-1 before the Bobcats came roaring back to take the finalthree singles matches and top the Cowgirls 4-3.
Sophomore Toni Terhaar, playing at the number five spot,fell in a 4-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5 heartbreaker after rallyingfroma 5-1 deficit in the second set by winning nine straightgames to force a third set.
"It really came down to Toni's match, and I couldn'thave asked for anything more from her," Wildt said. "Shejust couldn't pull it out."
The Cowgirls dropped to 2-4 on the season while MontanaState improved to 7-6 on the campaign. UW returns to thecourts Saturday morning, squaring off with the UniversityofMontana at 9:30 a.m. in at the Bobcat Tennis Center inBozeman.
