Wyoming Earns Win Over Gonzaga 5-2

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyomingwomen's tennis team beat Gonzaga 5-2 Sunday to win for thesecond straight day and take two of three duals over a busyweekend in Bozeman, Mont.

UW lost to Montana State 4-3 Friday before beating Montana5-2 Saturday and closing the weekend with the win overGonzaga. By taking two of three over the weekend theCowgirls evened their match record at 4-4 on the season.

"We had a great day against Gonzaga," Cowgirl coach PamWildt said. "The girls played good tennis."

The Cowgirls swept all three doubles matches for the secondconsecutive day. The sophomore duo of Jenny Bowman andJennifer Hancock ganged up on Jaime Buterbaug and SirrahWilliams 8-2 in number-one doubles, Yuliani Santi andPaulina del Monte won in the second position and ToniTeerhar and Kati Gyulai won the number-three doubles.

With the doubles point in the bag UW rolled through the topfour singles flights. Bowman, Santi and Hancock -- allsophomores -- won for the third straight day. Bowman toppedButerbaug 6-7, 6-0 (10-3) at the number-one position, Santidefeated Aaryn Volkmann 6-0, 6-2 in the second flight andHancock dropped Katie Sanders 6-3, 6-3 in number-threesingles play.

Paulina del Monte nabbed her second win of the weekend inthe four spot, beating Williams in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.The Bulldogs rallied to win at the number-five and six spotsfor their two points.

The Cowgirls return to the court Saturday, March 9,squaring off on the road versus Denver University.
