Cowgirl Tennis Swept by RedHawks, 7-0

March 8, 2014

The Cowgirl tennis team had a tough day to close out the weekend as they were swept 7-0 by the Miami RedHawks, on Saturday, in Lincoln.

"I'm proud of the fight we showed in singles play today," said head coach Dean Clower. "We are very close to being a good team but have some small but major things to fix. I know that we can get it done."

The RedHawks went ahead early by winning two of three doubles matches to take the point. The only Cowgirl team to come away with a win was Dorottya Jonas and Alena Vasileva over Christiana Raymond and Ramona Costea, 8-2. Veronica Popovici and Jessica Parizher fell to Ana Rajkovic and Christine Guerrazzi, 8-3, while Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva were defeated by Andreea Badileanu and Nimisha Mohan, 8-1.

In singles action, Miami carried that momentum over as they won all six matches. Mohan needed three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8), to beat Popovici, while Badileanu defeated Jonas, 6-1, 6-4. Raymond won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, over Parizher, as did Guerazzi, 6-2, 6-1, against Gecheva. The RedHawks closed out the day with Costea beating Silviya Zhelyazkova, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) and Rajkovic over Vasileva in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6)

The Cowgirls will resume play on Wednesday, March 19, against Long Beach State.
