The University of Wyoming Tennis team (7-3 overall) saw their five-match winning streak end on Friday as they lost their third match of the season to the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-3 overall), 4-3.

"Northridge is a good team. We have to give them credit for the win today," said UW head coach Kati Gyulai. "I feel we are a better team than we showed today."

In the doubles session, Cowgirl number one team Sarah Summerfield and Kim van Ginkel were defeated by Matadors Brooke Doane and Anna Yang, 8-1. Wyoming's only victory in doubles would come from Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs who defeated Nina Jaworowski and Whitney Paluch, 8-4. In the final doubles match of the day Cowgirls Simona Synkova and Sasa Nemcova were defeated by Maria Pistalu and Nigora Sirojiddinova, 8-3.

The Cowgirls would attempt a rally in singles, but would ultimately fall short by one match. Summerfield was defeated in the number one position in straight sets by Doane of the Matadors, 6-2, 6-3. Wyoming would then pick up two of the next three matches. Kovacs for UW would defeat Jaworowski in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Cowgirl Synkova would begin her match against Paluch with a first set win, 6-0. Synkova would fall in the second set, 6-4 but would hang on to win, 6-1, in the final set. Berger would open up with a, 6-2, first set win, but would fall in the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. Wyoming's van Ginkel would play a very close match against Yang. van Ginkel would start with a close 7-6 victory in the first set with a five point tie break, van Ginkel would defeat Yang in the second set 7-6, this time with a three point tie break to win the match. Following the number five match the Cowgirls and the Matadors were tied at three points a piece. The number six match between UW's Nemcova and CSUN's Pistalu would decide the match. Nemcova lost the first set, 7-6, in a one point tie break. Nemcova would fall to Pistalu in the final set, 7-5.

"This is another tough loss for us," added Gyulai, "We need to start learning from these types of close losses and respond better."
