Cowgirl Tennis Concludes Spring Break Play With a Loss

HONOLULU, Hawaii -

In their final Hawaii spring break match, the Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team fell to the University of Arizona, 6-0.

"Arizona played extremely well today, they are a very good team," said UW head coach Kati Gyulai. "This match was good for us before we start the Mountain West Conference matches."

The Wildcats earned the doubles point with two wins. In the number one spot, UW's Carly Van Hollen and Sarah Summerfield struggled and lost to Danielle Steinberg and Sarah Landsman, 8-2. Cowgirls Rebecca Berger and Jamie Nelson were defeated by Natasha Marks and Ariane Masschelein, 8-0.

In singles play, Summerfield started off with a loss against Steinberg, 6-0, 6-0. Van Hollen played in the number two spot, losing to Marks, 6-0, 6-0. Berger was then defeated by Landsman, 6-0, 6-2. Carolina Chaix struggled with a two set loss, 6-0, 6-1, Masschelein. In the number five spot, Nelson was defeated by Jane Huh, 6-0, 7-6.

Wyoming will return to Laramie for a home match against Eastern Washington on Monday, Mar. 23. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Wyoming Tennis Courts.
