The Cowgirl tennis team started off their spring break with two wins over the Dayton Flyers, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon and Bethune Cookman, 5-2, on Monday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida. With the victories, the Cowgirls move to 8-3 in dual play.
Wyoming dominated the match against Dayton as they swept every singles and doubles match. The No. 1 team of Jennifer Hancock and Yuliani Santi earned a 9-7 win over the team of Erin Kirkland and Kara Metzger, while at the No. 2 spot the team of Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko defeated Michelle Carroll and Sarah Miller, 8-0. UW closed out the doubles point with Gwen Moser and Megan Williams defeating the team of Kate Cabanski and Megan Flynn, 8-2. In an extra doubles match, the team of Patricia Chien and Andrea House earned an 8-2 win over Katie Donovan and Kate Mellion.
Singles play was also dominated by Wyoming led by sophomore Patricia Chien in the No. 1 spot with her two set victory, 6-3, 7-5, over Erin Kirkland. Yuliani Santi also won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, against Michelle Carroll, while Jennifer Hancock was victorious in her match against Katie Donovan, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 3 slot. Karolina Rowinski earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kara Metzger as did Amy Senko against Sarah Miller, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 5 position. The Cowgirls closed out singles play with freshman Andrea House beating Kate Mellion, 6-0, 4-6, (10-3).
The Cowgirls also took control early in their match against Bethune Cookman by taking two of three doubles matches to win the point. The No. 2 team of Patricia Chien and Andrea House earned an 8-5 victory over Elise Marshall and Jennifer Nelson, while the team of Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko earned a win by default. Unfortunately, seniors Jennifer Hancock and Yuliani Santi fell short 8-6 against Zora Gyoreova and Olga Ruislova.
In singles play, UW would take four of six matches to come away with the victory. Senior Jennifer Hancock won her second match in as many days with a two set, 7-5, 7-5, win over Lucia Palokova, while freshman Amy Senko, at the No. 4 spot, took a three set, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, win against Elise Marshall. Playing at the No. 5 position, Megan Williams also won in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, over Jennifer Nelson, while Gwen Moser took her singles match by default. Only two Cowgirls fell short in their two matches. Patricia Chien fell to Zora Gyoreova, 6-3, 6-3, as did Yuliani Santi, 6-1, 6-1, to Olga Ruislova.
