The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team went2-0 over the weekend with dual victories over Montana and Gonzaga. Bothmatches took place in Missoula, Mont. The Cowgirls defeated Montana 9-0on Friday and Gonzaga 8-1 on Saturday.
Against Montana, Wyoming won all six singles matches and all threedoubles matches. Melanie Roberts and Angela Dossetor both won three-setmatches, keying the shutout victory. Roberts defeated Jessica Redding6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the #1 singles match. In the #5 singles match,Dossetor defeated Kate Kohlschreiber 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.
In the match against Gonzaga, the Cowgirls won three matches that wentthree sets. Roberts, Sofia Espinosa and Dossetor all came away withvictories in close, three-set matches. Roberts defeated Theresa Madson6-1, 4-6, 6-0, to get the Cowgirls off to a good start. In the #3singles match, Espinosa defeated Melissa Juelis 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-3 andDossetor won her second extended match of the weekend, beating AntjeFrychel 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The doubles teams of Roberts/Shirley Mendoza, Sarah Kay/Espinosa andDossetor/Paulina del Monte all won their matches, going 6-0 on theweekend.
"The key for us this weekend was winning five three-set matches," saidWyoming head coach Pam Davis. "We were five-for-five in the three-setmatches, so that really helped us. The girls are real confident whenthey go into that third set, they know what to expect.
"All of our doubles teams played really well," said Davis. "We'vefound the right combinations and the right teams. It was a greatweekend for us and we are really starting to come along."
With the victories, the Cowgirls are now 6-7 on the season. Wyomingwill host its first spring season match of the year against theUniversity of Denver on March 31, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
