Cowgirl Tennis Closes Out Non-Conference With 7-0 Win Over Weber State

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The 68th ranked Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (10-3 overall) finished up their non-conference season with a 7-0 win over the Weber State Wildcats, on Sunday morning in Laramie.

"We did a good job getting on top early and we didn't look back," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "This match concludes our non-conference schedule with a 10-3 record. We will now shift our focus to the MWC and look forward to playing SDSU next week."

Wyoming started off the day on a strong note as they won all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel defeated Naseem Eslami and Brittiny Moore, 8-1, while Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs won over Annika Karlsen and Michelle Warwick, 8-2. Veronica Popovici and Carly Van Hollen wrapped it up with an 8-0 victory against Nittaya Phonharath and Kristi Russell.

The Cowgirls were equally as dominate in singles play as they earned victories at all six spots. Freshman Veronica Popovici won over Naseem Eslami, 6-3, 6-3, while Simona Synkova defeated her opponent, Brittiny Moore, 6-1, 6-3. At the third position, Kim van Ginkel won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, over Annika Karlsen. Senior Rebecca Berger earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against Michelle Warwick. UW wrapped things up with a Sasa Nemcova win, 6-1, 6-1, over Kristi Russell, and Carly Van Hollen recording a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Nittaya Phonharath.

Wyoming will open up Mountain West Conference play this week. They will face the San Diego State Aztecs, on Thursday, March 31.
