LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team dropped their second conference match of the weekend to the BYU Cougars on Saturday morning in Provo, Utah. The Cowgirls are now 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the MWC.
In doubles play, the Cougars earned the point by winning all three matches. UW's number one team of Corina Lazar and Amy Senko fell to Anastasia Sourkova and Jennifer Miccoli, 8-0. BYU's Jones and Chang ousted Karolina Rowinski and Patricia Chien, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot, while the team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser came up short against Hanni Wittenbecher and Breanna Williamson, 8-3.
The Cowgirls also fell short as BYU took five of the six singles matches led by Lauren Jones with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Patricia Chien. Sophomore Karolina Rowinski battled until the end but was defeated 6-1, 6-3 by Sofia Holden, while Corina Lazar lost a tough three set match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, against Olga Boulytcheva. The Cougars Jennifer Miccoli won in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 over freshman Kim Romero, while Andrea House fell 6-1, 6-1 to Rebecca Pike at the No. 5 spot. The only Cowgirl to come away with a win was sophomore Amy Senko with a 3-6, 6-3, (10-8) victory over Breanna Williamson.
Wyoming will be at home next week as they host three conference matches in Laramie. They open up against Colorado State, on Friday, April 1, Air Force, on Saturday, April 2 and then wrap things up against New Mexico, on Saturday, April 3.
