Summerfield and DeFelice Get Wins for Cowgirls Versus Horned Frogs

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (10-7 overall, 1-2 in the MWC) closed out the weekend with a 5-2 loss against the 22nd ranked TCU Frogs, on Sunday morning, in Ft. Worth.

TCU started off strong as they took all three doubles-matches to win the team point. It started with the number one team of Idunn Hertzber and Katariina Tuohimaa as they earned a 8-5 victory over Wyoming's Rebecca Berger and Corina Lazar, as did Kewa Nichols and Macall Harkins against UW's Michelle Brown and Carly Van Hollen, 8-0. Cowgirls Brittany DeFelice and Jamie Nelson had a tough 8-1 loss against Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova.

The Frogs also had a good run in singles as they won four of six matches. Two Cowgirls won matches on the day as Sarah Summerfield defeated Idunn Hertzberg in three sets, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-6, while DeFelice earned a 6-4, 6-2 win against Melissa Bere. Lazar fell in two sets, 6-1, 6-0, against the 67th ranked Munch-Soegaard, while Berger lost to Harkins, 6-0, 6-1. At the number three position, Van Hollen fell in two sets, 6-0, 6-2 against Tuohimaa, as did Brown against Nichols, 6-0, 6-2.

Wyoming will play their final home matches of the season against the BYU Cougars, on Saturday, April 5, and the Utah Utes, on Sunday, April 6. Both matches are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the UW Tennis Complex.
