The University of Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team lost a close match to theUniversity of Denver Pioneers today 5-4. With the loss the Cowgirlsfell to 6-8 overall the season.
The day began with Wyoming winning one of the three doubles matches. SeniorsMelanie Roberts and Shirley Mendozapulled out a tough match at No. 1 doubles defeating their opponent 8-6. In No. 2doubles, the match went into a tiebreaker with DU pulling out the win over Sarah Kay and Sofi Espinosa, 9-8.Paulina del Monte and Angela Dossetor inNo. 3 doubles also had a tough match, falling to their opponents 8-5.
In singles competition the Cowgirls and the Pioneers each won three matches. Wyominggot wins from Sarah Kay at #2 singles, Sofi Espinosa at #3 singles and Shirley Mendozaat #4 singles. The highlight for UW was Espinosa's match, in which she came back, afterlosing the first set 6-0, to win the final two sets and earn an important team point forWyoming.
Wyoming will next travel to Tulsa, OK, to take on Tulsa on April 8, 2000 at 10:00 amand Oral Roberts on April 9, 2000 at10:00 am. They then will have another home match against the Air Force Academy onApril 16, 2000 at 10:00 am at theUW Tennis Courts.
