Cowgirls Bounced By Rams

Laramie, Wyo. -- The University of Wyomingwomen's tennis team closed its three-day slate of homeduals Sunday with a 6-1 loss to Colorado State at the UWTennis Courts.

Wyoming (6-10 overall, 1-4 Mountain West Conference) went1-2 over the weekend at home, defeating Utah 4-3 Friday andlosing 5-2 to Brigham Young Saturday. The Rams (6-12overall) picked up their first MWC win of the year and nowstand 1-4 in league play.

"We came out and played a little bit flat all daytoday," Cowgirl head coach Pam Wildt said. "I think thematch was closer than the score indicated, it very easilycould have been 4-3. We had a couple tough matches and losta couple close matches, but the girls played hard."

Sophomore standout Jenny Bowman provided the Cowgirls'lone win in singles play, topping Sanja Hansson 6-4, 4-6(7-2, default) in the number-one position. Bowman alsoteamed with classmate Jen Hancock to produce UW's onlydoubles win, an 8-6 decision over Hansson and CatherineSullivan in number-one doubles.

"Jenny just always takes care of business," Wildt said."She knows how to make things happen and she understandshow to force the tempo of the match. She had a good day."

With her singles victory over Hansson, Bowman finished 3-0for the weekend and ran her season record to 19-5. She is4-1 MWC play.

In other action Sunday, CSU's Amanda Bartz and BobbeVasos topped Yuliani Santi and Paulina del Monte 8-2 innumber-two doubles while Alexandra Paganetti and DashaZhurin claimed an 8-5 victory over Toni Terhaar and KatiGyulai in number-three doubles.

Santi lost 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) to Bartz in number-two singles,Hancock was downed 6-1, 6-2 by Sullivan in the thirdposition, del Monte fell to Vasos 6-3, 6-1 in number-foursingles, Terhaar bowed 6-1, 6-1 to Zhurin in the fifth spotand Gyulai fell to Paganetti in number-six singles 6-2, 7-6(7-5).

"We had a lot of great efforts today," Wildt said."We didn't play badly, we just didn't quite show upand play the way we are capable."

UW returns to the courts this weekend, traveling toAlbuquerque, NM for two more conference duals. The Cowgirlsface New Mexico Saturday, April 13 before squaring off withAir Force Sunday, April 14.

"We've got to bounce back and get ready for a couplemore tough matches," Wildt said.
