The University of Wyoming Cowgirltennis team was in Tulsa, Oklahoma today and were defeated by the GoldenHurricane 9-0. The Hurricane are ranked 37th in the nation and arenow 15-4 on the season. The Cowgirls, now 6-9, were missing Sarah Kayin No. 2 singles and doubles due to family obligations.
In singles the Cowgirls had Melanie Roberts in the No. 1 spot withShirley Mendoza taking Sarah Kay's spot at No. 2. Both lost to theiropponents in two sets scoring 6-1, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-4 respectively. Inthe No. 3 and No. 4 spots for the Cowgirls, Sofi Espinosa and AngelaDossetor lost to their opponents 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1. Paulina delMonte and Amanda Roberts finished the singles for the Cowgirls losing intwo as well.
In doubles the No. 3 team of Dossetor and del Monte came the closestwith a score of 8-5. The No. 1 team of Melanie Roberts and ShirleyMendoza lost 8-0, while the No. 2 team of Espinosa and McPhail lost8-1.
The team is scheduled to play Oral Roberts tomorrow in Tulsa at 10:00am. They then will be back to Laramie for their third and last homematch against the Air Force Academy at 10:00 am on April 16, 2000 at theUW Tennis Courts.
"We just couldn't make adjustments today," said coach Pam Davis afterthe match. "We came out flat and they just jumped on us. We are goingto use this match as a practice match in preparation for Oral Roberts,which should be a better match-up for us tomorrow. Tulsa is nationallyranked and they came out and played like it."
