Cowgirl Tennis Falls 5-1 To 41st ranked Aztecs on Friday Afternoon

FT. COLLINS, Colo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team had a tough outing as they fell 5-1 to the 41st ranked San Diego State Aztecs, on Friday afternoon, in Ft. Collins. They are now 9-11 overall and 3-4 in MW play this spring.

The Cowgirls and Aztecs would only get singles action in today due to the weather conditions and playing indoors. San Diego State dominated the action as they would win at the one, two, three, five and six spots. Julia Wais would defeat Veronica Popovici, 6-2, 6-0, followed by Alicia Aguilar with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Simona Synkova. At the number sixth position Silviya Zhelyazkova lost to Michela Casanova, 6-1, 6-3, while the Aztecs clinched the match as Laura Antonana-Iriarte defeated Alexandra Kovacs, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. Tami Nguyen came out on top against Jessica Parizher with a 7-5, 7-6 win. The only Cowgirl to earn a victory was senior Sasa Nemcova who beat Kristin Buth in three sets, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-6 (5).

The Cowgirls will wrap up the conference season tomorrow against the UNLV Rebels. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Ft. Collins.
