Wyoming Tennis Earns Victory Against Rams

The Cowgirl Tennis team (12-8 overall, 2-5 in MWC) earned a 7-0 conference victory against the Colorado State Rams (8-12 overall, 0-7 in MWC) on Friday afternoon in Laramie.

In doubles action, Wyoming earned the first point of the day by winning all three matches. Veronica Popovici and Carly Van Hollen won the first match of the day with an 8-2 victory over Melissa Holzinger and Veronika Wojakowska, 8-2. Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel followed with an 8-2 defeat of Tori Arneson and Caitlin Fluegge. The Cowgirls closed out the point with Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs taking an 8-4 win against Lauren Mulhern and Kaley Schultz.

The Cowgirls carried the momentum into singles action as they swept all six matches. Veronica Popovici defeated Caitlin Fluegge in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, followed by Alexandra Kovacs over Tori Arneson in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Kim van Ginkel won her match over Lauren Mulhern, 6-3, 6-0. At the number four spot Simona Synkova had a straight set win, 6-1, 6-4, against Veronika Wojakowska. Wyoming wrapped up the win with a Carly Van Hollen defeat against Kaley Schultz, 7-6, 4-6, 10-7, and Rebecca Berger over Melissa Holzinger, 6-0, 6-0. Berger now ties former Cowgirl Sarah Summerfield with 67 career singles wins.

Wyoming will play their final regular season match on Sunday, April 24. They will host the Air Force Academy Falcons beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the UW Tennis Complex.
