Wyoming Tennis Sweeps Colorado State 7-0

The Wyoming tennis team (10-11 overall, 3-2 MW) closed out the regular conference season with a 7-0 victory over the Colorado State Rams (5-14, 0-6 MW) on Saturday afternoon.

“I thought we were very professional today as the way we played and went about,” UW head coach Dean Clower said. “We executed the small details very well today. We will take a couple of days to recover and be ready to go again at the MW.”

Wyoming started off the match strong winning the opening point of the day. The team of Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva defeated Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter, 6-1, followed by a 6-1 win from Dorottya Jonas and Miranda Talbert against Maddie Buxton and Caroline Henderson.

The Cowgirls continued the momentum by sweeping all six singles matches. Stencel dropped only game in her match 6-1, 6-0 against Laia Hernandez Soler followed by Jonas with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Aina Hernandez Soler. At the number three spot, Tokareva won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5 while Koonik defeated Buxton, 6-1, 6-3. Sanne Hoekstra earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Porter and Tessa van Der Ploeg beat Celine Voss, 6-0, 6-3.

UW will be back in action next week at the 2016 MW Championship in Ft. Collins. The Cowgirls’ opponent and time have yet to be determined.
