Top-Seeded Aztecs Down Wyoming in First Round of MWC Championships

The University of Wyomingwomen's tennis team lost it's first round match at theMountain West Conference Championships Thursday, bowing 5-0to no. 1 seed San Diego State in Provo, Utah.

San Diego State, ranked no. 28 nationally and the regularseason MWC champion, took the doubles point from Wyomingwith wins at the no. 2 and 3 positions and took singlesmatches in the two, four, five and six spots. No. 1 and no.3 singles matches and the no. 1 doubles match weren'tcompleted.

Wyoming's Yuliani Santi fell 6-1, 6-1 in no. 2 singles toLindsey Hedberg; Aztec Katalina Romero topped Paulina delMonte 6-2, 6-2 in the no. 4 spot; Indra Erichsen picked up a6-0, 6-2 win over Kati Gyulai in no. 5 singles and ToniTerhaar fell 6-1, 6-1 to Julie Ana Chidely in no. 6 singles.

The Cowgirls square off with Utah, a 5-0 loser to BYUThursday, in a 2 p.m. Friday tilt in the consolation round.In other action Thursday, UNLV beat Colorado State 4-0 andNew Mexico downed Air Force 4-1.
