The University of Wyoming CowgirlTennis team will take on the Colorado State Rams today after losing inthe first round of the Mountain West Championships tothe New Mexico Lobos yesterday by a score of 6-0. The Lobos, whoimproved their record to 15-9 and 5-1 in the MWC, will play third seededBYU Friday at 2:00 pm PT in one semifinal. The Cowgirls, now 8-12 and1-5 in the MWC, will play the Rams today at 10:00 am PT.
The Cowgirls only competed in singles yesterday and struggled against avery good New Mexico team. Senior, Melanie Roberts was the first toplay and lost in straight sets scoring 6-3, 6-2. Senior Sarah Kay andsophomore Sofi Espinosa followed suit and both were defeated by theiropponents 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-4 respectively. The rest of the Cowgirlscouldn't pull out a win and all lost in straight sets.
The Cowgirls will be playing for fifth place in the MWC Tournament ifthey defeat the Rams today. They will play either Air Force or Utahtomorrow at 10:00 am PT for either fifth or seventh place depending onthe outcome today. CSU dropped to 10-10 on the season and 2-2 in theMWC after their loss against BYU yesterday.
