The University of Wyoming tennis team completed the final day of the UW Invitational in Laramie on Saturday. The Cowgirls went 3-3 in doubles play and 2-3 in singles play on Saturday. Overall in the invite the Cowgirls won 17 out of 29 matches.
In doubles sophomore Michelle Brown continued her solid tournament on Saturday when she teamed up with senior Gwen Moser to defeat Tyffani Thomas and Allison Fey of Montana State 8-3. Brown and junior Andrea House earlier lost to the team of Paulina Zuniga of New Mexico State and Kelly Morgan of Air Force 8-6. Senior Patricia Chien and junior Karolina Rowinski lost their first match of the day to Mignot and van Beusekom of New Mexico State by a score of 8-3. The duo then bounced back to win a 9-8 thriller against Vasileva and Lozano from Montana State. Sophomore Corina Lazar and partner Andrea House also got a notch in the win column when they beat Lutolf and Clarke from Montana State.
Paving the way in singles play for the Cowgirls on Saturday was junior Karolina Rowinski and sophomore Corina Lazar. Rowinski easily defeated Karissa Walker of Air Force 6-1, 6-1 in her only singles match of the day. Like Rowinski, Lazar won 6-1, 6-1 against Lauren Wilson, also from Air Force. Senior Patricia Chien lost a heartbreaker to Kat Bushey from Air Force. The match was back and forth but Bushey was able to hold Chien off with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. Andrea House, a junior from Hammett, Idaho, lost 6-1, 6-1 to Christine Abayan from Air Force. Sophomore Michelle Brown had her only loss of the tournament on Saturday as she lost a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 match to Air Force's Erika Shortridge.
Next up for the Cowgirls is the Air Force Invitational Oct. 7-9 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
