Laramie, Wyo. (Sept. 25, 2004) -- The University of Wyoming Women's Tennis Team finished play in the University of Wyoming Invite. The Cowgirls went 5-1 on the day in singles play, and in doubles play they went 6-2.
Junior Patricia Chien led the way for the Cowgirls as she won the flight A singles bracket 6-1, 6-2 over Tea Spirta of UTEP. After a tough loss on Friday, sophomore Karolina Rowinski fought her way back to a fifth place finish as she defeated Karissa Walker of Air Force in a tough 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 match.
The flight C singles was won by Cowgirl sophomore Amy Senko. Senko defeated Danielle King of UTEP 6-2, 6-2 to take first place. In the same flight, sophomore Andrea House defeated Air Force's Erica Shortridge 7-5, 6-3 to capture fifth place.
Flight D once again had a Cowgirl in the final match. Freshman Michelle Brown lost in the final to Teri Wilkerson in a hard fought match, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Gwen Moser easily defeated Miclynn Crail of Air Force 6-2, 6-1 to win fifth place in flight D.
In doubles play, junior Patricia Chien continued her stellar play as she teamed up with sophomore Karolina Rowinski for doubles play. Chien and Rowinski defeated Wilkerson and Palider of UTEP in the backdraw of doubles play 8-5, then beat Lozano and Vasileva 8-0. Andrea House and partner Gwen Moser also went 2-0 on the day in doubles play as they defeated Duran and Hockett of Montana State 8-6 in their last match of the day. The freshman duo of Kim Romero and Corina Lazar first defeated Duran and Hockett, then they beat Wilkerson and Palider of UTEP to finish their doubles play 2-0 on the day. Other doubles teams that competed today was Amy Senko and Michelle Brown.
Next up for the Cowgirls is the Air Force Invite on Oct. 8-10 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
