Cowgirl Tennis Complete First Day of Competition

Colorado Springs, Colo -- The Wyoming Cowgirl TennisTeam completed their first day of competition at the USAFA Invitationalon Friday in Colorado Springs.

Despite struggling in singles play, the Cowgirls had a good showingwith some solid play from the doubles teams. In Flight One doubles play,the team of senior Kati Gyulai and freshman Patricia Chiendefeated the team of Bushey and Selby of the Air Force Academy, 8-5, andBraver and Jirnova in the quarterfinals, 8-6, of Oklahoma to go 2-0 onthe day. Jen Hancock and Yuliani Santi fell short in their first match,8-3, to Fodor and Gaal of Washington State, but rebounded with a 9-7victory over O'Bryant and Miller of Air Force.

In Flight Three singles play, freshman Megan Williams was the onlyCowgirl to win a singles match as she defeated Jenny Hanson of Coloradoby the scores of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.

The Cowgirls will continue play in the USAFA Invitational on Saturdayand Sunday in Colorado Springs.
