The University of Wyoming tennis team had a rough start to their weekend as they competed in doubles play, on Friday and Saturday, at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs. The Cowgirls won only two matches during the first half of the tournament.
UW will begin singles play later today and tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
The team of Andrea House and Amy Senko won their opening match against the team of Satherlie and Strasburger from Colorado State, 8-4. Unfortunately, they were then defeated by Nurmi and Jendrian of Colorado, 8-3, Shortridge and Walker of Air Force, 9-7, and Sacmaster and Smole of Denver, 8-6 to close out the weekend. The team of Nurmi and Jendrian of Colorado took first in Pool 1 followed by Sacmaster and Smole in second.
In Flight One doubles play, Corina Lazar and Karolina Rowinski opened up with an 8-2 loss to the team of Aksdal and Maksovic of Denver and Exeni and Webster of Wichita State, 8-5. They finished out Friday with a nice 8-6 win over Nuccio and Shelly of Northern Colorado. On Saturday, they had a rough match against Abayan and Bushey of Air Force as they fell 8-1.
In their only two doubles matches of the weekend, the team of Michelle Brown and Gwen Moser went 0-2. They fell to Vasos of Northern Colorado and Hanson of Colorado, 8-3, on Friday, then closed things out with an 8-6 loss to Akel and Singh of Colorado State on Saturday morning.
