I'm proud of these players and enjoyed being with them while they have competed. We have a few hours to recover and be ready for tomorrow."
Popovici defeated Ashley Tiefel of Colorado, 6-1, 6-4 followed by a straight set win, 6-4, 7-5 over Callie Craig of Utah. Jonas lost in the first set to Shelia Morales Hidalgo, 6-4, but rallied to win the second and third sets, 6-4, 7-5 to win the match. She would also need three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, in her victory against Precious Gbadamosi of Montana. They will both play in the quarterfinals tomorrow. The final Cowgirl in action was Jessica Parizher who fell to Mayci Jones of BYU, 6-3, 6-4.
The duo also moved their way into the quarterfinals in doubles play as well with an 8-5 win over Savannah Ware and Morgan Anderson of BYU. They will face Michaela Bezdickova and Lizette Blankers of New Mexico in doubles play tomorrow.
In consolation action, four Cowgirls took the court in singles play. Alma Espinosa defeated Annemieke Witte of New Mexico State, 6-1, 6-4, while Christa Gecheva beat Hilary Walters-West of Northern Colorado, 6-1 7-5. Silviya Zhelyazkova beat Hailey Rochin of Northern Arizona, 7-5, 6-3, while Alena Vasileva lost to Aiello of Colorado, 6-1, 6-2.
Both main draw singles and doubles will continue tomorrow, along with consolations matches.
