The Wyoming Cowgirls tennis team had a solid day as they continued to play at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships. Today consisted of two rounds of doubles, third round singles, and first round of consolation singles.
The Cowgirls had three doubles teams competing today, with two of the three advancing into the third round. Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova had a first round bye and then went on to defeat their second round opponents Hannah Dake and Anastasia Hueffner from Air Force, 8-4. The doubles team of Sasa Nemcova and Christa Gecheva defeated their first round opponents Tori Arneson and Lauren Pick from CSU, 8-1 and followed up with an 8-6 defeat of their second round opponents Sammie Watson and Lucia Kovarcikova from Utah. Alexandra Kovacs and Jessica Parizher won their first match of the day against Beatriz Flores and Molly Knox from the University of Idaho, 8-4, but fell short against Sandy Vo and Manuela Pietzuch from Boise St., 8-6.
Three Cowgirls also competed in the third round of singles today. Veronica Popovici defeated her opponent Anett Ferenczi-Bako from UNLV in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. She is the only Cowgirl to advance in the singles bracket. Jessica Parizher lost to Winde Janssens from CU in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Simona Synkova was the final Cowgirl to compete in the main draw singles bracket today, falling to her opponent Sarah Pham of Utah, 6-1, 6-2. Alma Espinosa competed in the first round of consolation singles defeating Kelsie Craig from BYU, 6-4, 6-1.
