Two doubles teams and all seven singles players were in action today at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament in Las Vegas.
Veronica Popovici was the only Cowgirl competing in singles main draw today. She moved into the semi-finals with a win over Elena Najera-Salas from Denver, 6-2, 6-3, but fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, against Aleksandra Josifoska (UNLV). Two doubles teams also competed today, with one team moving onto the next round. Popovici and Simona Synkova defeated Morgan Anderson and Aubrey Paul from BYU, 8-6. They advance to the quarterfinals and play tomorrow morning against Price and Sheehan-Dixon (BYU). Sasa Nemcova and Christa Gecheva lost to Melissa Cecil and Tahlia Smoke from Air Force, 9-8.
In consolation singles action, Jessica Parizher defeated Danielle Flores (Utah) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, while Synkova also won her match over Carla Marzi-Tenorio from CU, 6-0, 6-2. Alma Espinosa came away with a two set win, 6-0, 6-2.
Other Cowgirls in action include, Sasa Nemcova who lost to Callie Craig (Utah) in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7, along with Alexandra Kovacs fell to her opponent Emma Isberg from Denver. Christa Gecheva came up short to Desiree Tran from BYU as well, 6-4, 6-1.
