Cowgirl singles player Jenny Bowmandefeated two opponents today to advance to the championship round at theAggie Invitational hosted by New Mexico State University. Bowman playedexceptionally in the first two days of the tournament which has 32 women inthe draw.
Bowman downed the number two player from Northern Arizona, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 ina three hour and ten minute battle. In the semifinal round, Bowman played awoman from New Mexico State and came out ahead, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
"Jenny (Bowman) played really well today," said UW head tennis coach PamWildt.
Bowman also competed exceptionally in doubles today with partner JenniferHancock, defeating both teams they faced to advance to the finals tomorrow.In their first match, the two Cowgirls faced a team from UTEP, winning 8-4.In the semifinal round, Bowman and Hancock defeated a combination team fromUTEP and New Mexico State 9-7 to advance to the final match tomorrow.
"We had an excellent day," said Wildt. "We're playing really well andcompeting at a high level. They're playing from behind well and not gettingdiscouraged. I'm very proud of them."
The Aggie Invitational concludes tomorrow with finals beginning at 9 a.m.
