The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team closed out their fall season at the 2009 Wilson ITA Mountain Region Tournament, on Friday, in Las Vegas, Nev.
"We are pleased with the way we ended the fall season," said UW head coach Kati Gyulai. "I think we have made tremendous improvements in our play especially in doubles. We played tough against some of the top teams in the region in singles and doubles. We look forward coming home to continue working in the off-season as well as healing from a hard fought fall."
In singles action, two of the three Cowgirls opened up the day with victories but fell short in the next round. Rebecca Berger defeated Florence DeVrye of Nevada, 6-2, 6-3, while Alexandra Kovacs earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Laura Neal (CSU). The other player in action Kim Van Ginkel lost to Lauren Megale of Boise State in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
All three doubles team had a tough go of it in the round of 16. Summerfield and Van Hollen defeated Milewski and Probert (CU), 8-6, but came up short against Belassi and Esposito (CU), 8-1. Nemcova and van Ginkel fell to the top seed Jones and Price of BYU, 8-3, while the team of Berger and Kovacs were defeated by Maughan and Monson of Utah, 8-6.
Wyoming is scheduled begin the 2010 spring season on Saturday, Feb. 6, against Arkansas Little Rock in Lincoln, Neb.
