The Wyoming tennis team wrapped up play on Saturday at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament in Albuquerque.
"We had another positive day at the tournament. We won a few of our extra matches and more importantly are beginning to understand what UW tennis is," head coach Dean Clower said. "Dorottya is one of the toughest competitors I have been around. It's been a pleasure watching her grow and the results of this tournament are a testament to her work ethic. This has been a great start to her year."
Sophomore Dorottya Jonas lost to the top-seed Tereza Bekerova of Utah in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation singles bracket, senior Silviya Zhelyazkova fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, against Maureen Slattery of Denver.
Three Cowgirls played in extra matches on Saturday with all coming away with victories. Cecilia Mercier needed three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10), over Jessica Cedillo of Northern Colorado, while Christa Gecheva defeated Hilary Walters-West (Northern Colorado) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The final Cowgirl in action was Nastya Tokareva who beat Hailey Rochin of Northern Arizona, 6-3, 6-2.
