Cowgirl Tennis Continues Play at Central Regionals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team continued play with four singles and four doubles teams in action on Thursday at the ITA Central Region Championships in Salt Lake City.

In main draw singles play, Cowgirl freshman Sarah Summerfield defeated Gleisy Torres Torres of Colorado in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. She will take on Rachel Sackmaster of Denver tomorrow in the round of 32.

Wyoming sophomore Corina Lazar also won her first match over Cinthia Saucedo of Utah, 6-4, 6-1. She will play Leslie Vial of Northern Arizona tomorrow.

Annette Askdal (Denver) defeated UW's Andrea House, 6-0, 6-2, while Cowgirl senior Karolina Rowinski also lost in the first round to Efrat Leopold of Idaho, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. House, Rowinski, along with Michelle Brown, Carolina Chaix and Jamie Nelson will all play in the singles back draw.

In doubles action, Chaix and Nelson lost to Courtney Anderson and Dee Dee Nelson of Utah State, 8-6. Summerfield and Lazar fell to Emily Kwok and Cheyenne Reveche, 8-1, while House and Rowinski had a tough loss against Paij Porter and Leslie Vial of Northern Arizona, 9-8 (6). Brown and Senko lost in their opening match of the day, 8-3, against Tiffany Coll and Bianca Jochimsen of Boise State.
